About Us

The Association des étudiants et des étudiantes en Histoire à Concordia (AEHC) / Students of History at Concordia (SHAC) - better known as “SHAC” is a student organization representing all students registered in a history class at Concordia. SHAC was founded in 1978, and was created with the goal of protecting and advancing the interests of history students. SHAC’S primary purpose is to improve the quality of life and strengthen the community of History undergraduate students at Concordia University. It’s both a social organization and advocacy group for undergraduate students in History.

We are committed to enhancing the academic and social experience of those in our department. We put on social events—including movie nights, pub nights and coffee hours—and we host events with speakers from the field of history, among other things. SHAC also serves as a liaison between students and the Department, to raise student concerns as well as provide information and resources to History students. The group aims to bring together students, teachers, writers of history, and the interested public for a wide variety of intellectual and social exchanges during the academic year to discuss and promote the science of History. Through these activities, the organization supports historical inquiry, research, publication, good teaching, and the exchange of ideas among those with historical interests. SHAC also publishes Historiae, our annual journal for excellence in undergraduate research and scholarship in History.

SHAC is composed of 7 executives who are elected annually. You can learn more about the current team here. Or click here for information on how to join SHAC!

GET INVOLVED!

All History students are encouraged to become involved — whether by attending events, discussing their experiences with their reps, or running for an elected position! We are hoping to host Trivia Nights, Open Forums on Historical Events, W(h)ine and Cheese Gatherings, and much more!

Representing Students

In addition to holding social and academic events, SHAC is also the representative of undergraduate students to the Department of History.

Members of our executive sit on the History Department Council—making sure that undergraduate voices are heard when the department is making decisions.

If you are an undergraduate in History and you are having issues with the department, SHAC is here to raise those issues within the department and advocate for you! To voice a concern, speak with a member of the executive or contact us.
